Smallwood Flooring has been installing floors in Charlotte homes since 2016. We're not a big-box retailer with a warehouse full of subcontractors — owner William Smallwood is on the job site, and the same small crew that measures your rooms is the one laying your floor.
We install solid and engineered hardwood, carpet, and luxury vinyl plank (LVP). How an Install Actually Goes
Every job starts with a free in-home visit. We measure, check the subfloor, and give you a real number before any work begins — no phone-quote guessing. On install day we protect the surrounding rooms, remove furniture as needed, and get to work.
Subfloor condition matters more than most homeowners expect, especially with Charlotte's mix of older houses on crawlspaces and newer builds on slab. We check for moisture, squeaks, and unevenness before a single plank or carpet seam goes down, because a floor is only as good as what's underneath it.

Summers here are hot and humid, and that affects how hardwood and LVP need to acclimate before installation and how they're fitted at the edges. We account for seasonal expansion whether we're working in a 1960s ranch near uptown or a brand-new build out in one of the growing suburban subdivisions.

Ranges assume a standard-condition subfloor. Older homes, extensive repairs, or unusual layouts are quoted after we've actually seen the space.
Flooring Installation - frequently asked questions
No — Smallwood Flooring works by appointment and comes to you. We've found that seeing samples in your own lighting, next to your own trim and cabinets, gives a much better sense of what a floor will actually look like than a showroom display does.
A single room of LVP or carpet is often a one-day job. Whole-home hardwood or multi-room projects usually run several days depending on square footage and whether old flooring needs to come out first. We'll give you a real timeline during your estimate.
We handle moving furniture within reason as part of the job — just let us know ahead of time if there's anything especially heavy or fragile so we can plan for it.
We'll do our best with hardwood species, plank width, and stain matching, but wood is a natural material and exact matches aren't always possible — we'll be upfront with you about that during the estimate rather than promising a perfect match we can't deliver.
